🔧 Troubleshooting Common Issues

❌ My signature formatting looks broken

Solution: Apple Mail has limited HTML support:

  • Avoid complex CSS styles and layouts
  • Use inline styles instead of external CSS
  • Test with simpler designs
  • On macOS, try the advanced HTML editing method

❌ Images don't display in my signature

Solution: Image handling varies by platform:

  • macOS: Use publicly hosted images with HTTPS URLs
  • iOS: Add images directly through Settings (not via HTML)
  • Avoid base64-encoded images
  • Keep image sizes under 100KB

❌ Signature appears twice in replies

Solution: Check your settings:

  • On macOS: Mail → Preferences → Signatures → Uncheck "Place signature above quoted text"
  • On iOS: Make sure you're not manually adding signatures
  • Delete any duplicate signatures in Settings

❌ My signature resets or changes unexpectedly (macOS)

Solution: Lock your signature file:

  • Close Mail app
  • Navigate to ~/Library/Mail/V*/MailData/Signatures/
  • Run: chflags uchg yourfile.mailsignature
  • This prevents Mail from modifying the file

💡 Pro Tips for Apple Mail

  • Use different signatures for macOS and iOS - mobile signatures should be simpler
  • Test your signature by emailing yourself before using it professionally
  • Keep signatures short and sweet - 3-4 lines maximum for mobile
  • Use standard fonts (San Francisco, Helvetica) for best compatibility
  • On macOS, create multiple signatures for different purposes
