🔧 Troubleshooting Common Issues
❌ My signature formatting looks broken
Solution: Apple Mail has limited HTML support:
- Avoid complex CSS styles and layouts
- Use inline styles instead of external CSS
- Test with simpler designs
- On macOS, try the advanced HTML editing method
❌ Images don't display in my signature
Solution: Image handling varies by platform:
- macOS: Use publicly hosted images with HTTPS URLs
- iOS: Add images directly through Settings (not via HTML)
- Avoid base64-encoded images
- Keep image sizes under 100KB
❌ Signature appears twice in replies
Solution: Check your settings:
- On macOS: Mail → Preferences → Signatures → Uncheck "Place signature above quoted text"
- On iOS: Make sure you're not manually adding signatures
- Delete any duplicate signatures in Settings
❌ My signature resets or changes unexpectedly (macOS)
Solution: Lock your signature file:
- Close Mail app
- Navigate to ~/Library/Mail/V*/MailData/Signatures/
- Run:
chflags uchg yourfile.mailsignature - This prevents Mail from modifying the file
